Chrono Cross Is The Best Game Ever Made

The girl who stole the stars, trapped within a memory, and the journey for her thoughts may cost you everything – here’s why Chrono Cross is the best game ever made.

The opening sentence above is not what most people would expect out of a  video game. I meet many people even today who are surprised that video games can have a story at all. And yet to me, the story of one girl is one of the many reasons why I consider Chrono Cross to be the best game ever made. Released in 1999 for the PlayStation, this game is a piece of art. And so if you’re a gaming aficionado, or just someone who likes deep stories, read on. A lot of my readers enjoy reading posts that reveal a lot about who I am, and if you’re in that category but not a huge gamer, give this one a read anyway – it might show you a bit more about what makes me tick (particularly the last section of this review). My Relient K Air For Free Review

After the polarizing Collapsible Lung, how did Relient K do with their latest album? All I can say is, “Welcome back, boys” – here’s my Air For Free review.

Air For Free Review

Relient K was a band I grew up with. During my teenage years I got introduced to the 5 man band, and they were an instant fit. It seemed like for anything going on at any season of your life, Relient K had a song for it. Needing some extra energy to keep going? Pressing On. Dealing with some decisions? For The Moments I Feel Faint. Big difficult issues in your life you need to process? Let It All Out. Need a deep theological joruney? You could look at Be My Escape, Devastation and Reform, Deathbed, In Like A Lion… lots of their songs fit that category very well. On top of that, pretty much any song they ever wrote was a standout, thanks in large part to Matt Thiessen’s excellent skills as a true wordsmith, and some great musicality. The album Forget and Not Slow Down was a masterpiece that could only be listened in its entirety, not just with single songs, simply because of the excellent musical and emotional journey the album took you on. Anything less was missing out on the full experience. Their Christmas album is on rotation on my music players literally the whole year long. Continue reading

7 Reasons I Love The Movie Something Borrowed

A chick flick even men can enjoy, a good cast, and a film that’s all too real – here are 7 reasons I love the movie Something Borrowed.

The Movie Something Borrowed

A while ago (and I mean a while ago) I wrote a post entitled The Anatomy of a Chick Flick. In that post I wrote about what seems to be the standard format that all chick flicks follow. Being a guy with a lot of female friends, it’s only natural that I’ve been exposed to a lot of them over the course of time. Okay okay, I admit it, I do own a few. Not many, but a few. I find that a lot of chick flicks, because of their formula, are the female equivalent of the bimbo sidekick who accompanies and desperately falls in love with the male action hero in a lot of action movies (especially pre-2000s). The characters are specifically designed to cater towards particular insecurities and desires, which is a lot more evident when you aren’t in the target market.

When conversation about chick flicks that men can watch and enjoy come up, a few get mentioned. There was the Avengers style He’s Just Not That Into You. There’s The Holiday with a Hans Zimmer soundtrack and a few more notable actors in it. There’s the so called “man flick” 500 Days of Summer… most women I know actually don’t like that movie too much, cause it’s too much about the guy side. All I can say is that one is too real.

And in the same conversation about movies that are too real, there is the movie Something Borrowed. Continue reading

The Best Comic Book Movie? Amazing Spiderman 2 Review

With Civil War’s Spiderman drawing rave reviews, who is the ultimate Spiderman? Time to look at my favourite comic book movie – here’s my Amazing Spiderman 2 review.

Amazing Spiderman 2 Review

Source: Colombia

Not gonna lie – I thoroughly enjoyed the new Captain America: Civil War. I saw it a few days after it came out with some friends and all I can say is wow. Fantastic movie. I was one of the few people was a massive fan of the Captain America movies above the other comic book related movies. Don’t get me wrong – Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy is amazing. Nolan is a genius in all the movies he’s birthed. The Iron Man trilogy was great. Guardians of the Galaxy – brilliant, and stoked to see so much of Thanos in it. The Thor movies were… okay. But the Captain America movies always held a place near and dear in my heart, because they weren’t just about the super powers, but what it meant to be a good man.

And I enjoyed all the Spiderman movies. Spiderman 2 from Sam Raimi was and still is considered an amazing movie, and it is. It showed the true humanity of Peter Parker, and what it is to be responsible.  Continue reading

10 Random TV Shows I Enjoyed Growing Up

And now for some hidden gems from our childhood – here are 10 random TV shows I enjoyed growing up.

Random TV Shows I Enjoyed Growing Up

We all have those popular shows that we have fond memories of. I recently saw a topic which resurfaced the other day about the restoration of a classic Australian morning TV show known as Cheez TV. Anyone remember that one? It had like 3 or 4 of the best shows that all the kids were watching, and then in between the gaps and the ads they would do some cool segments about outdoor adventures or new video games or little sketches. It was a great time and one of the most popular shows here in Aussie Land, and the reason many kids were late for school some mornings.

But then I think of some of those other TV shows I watched growing up that weren’t as commonly appreciated. Sure, there were those super popular shows I enjoyed like Dragon Ball Z, Dexter’s Laboratory, Spongebob and even Veggie Tales. Growing up I had a mix of Free to Air TV (in Brisbane, Australia – woohoo!) and eventually we made the upgrade to Foxtel (cable provider in Australia). As a result, at a whole bunch of different ages, I got to enjoy a whole range of different shows. Continue reading

13 Reasons I Prefer The Star Wars Prequels

With the whole world going nuts with the release of Episode 7, here are 13 reasons why I prefer the Star Wars prequels.

I think I just broke the Internet.

Star Wars Episode 7 is upon us, boys and girls. Every single company in the whole earth is going for a cash in. Everything everywhere is covered in Kylo Ren and stormtroopers and Harrison Ford. The Internet is crazy with fan theories about the Nights of Ren, where on earth Mark Hamill is and whether or not Darth Revan has made a comeback (please please please). And I have a confession that I have made before, but I think it’s time I was up front about it in detail. You guys deserve some honesty, so…

Here it goes…

I prefer the Star Wars prequels. Continue reading
